Sample letter of complaint

30 January 2007

Electric Dictionary Centre
1 China Town
Adelaide SA5000

Dear Sir/madam

On 12 January 2007, I purchased an English-to-Chinese electronic dictionary (model TT123) from your business (purchase contact no. 1234). Four days later, on 16 January 2007, I returned my dictionary after notifying the shopkeeper that it was not working properly because the interpreter did not match the words. Your technicians promised they would fix the problem within two working days. The dictionary was left at your workshop for repairs. On 19 January 2007, I collected my dictionary expecting all the problems had been fixed.

However, two days after I collected my dictionary, the interpretation problem had arisen again. The technicians consented to fix the problem on 22 January 2007 and again on 26 January 2007 without success. Your technicians have repaired my dictionary three times but problems still occur. I am very disappointed as the dictionary is not performing as well as I expected.

I have not been able to use the dictionary for two weeks now. It is a big problem for me to study without understanding the meanings of new words. As I am studying in year 12, this will influence my final results at high school and consequently my future.

In order to resolve the problem, I propose that the dictionary be repaired by Peter’s Electronic Repair Centre, experts in electronic dictionary repairs and that your business arranges to pay the repair fee directly to them. Otherwise I would appreciate it if you exchanged my dictionary for a new one. Enclosed are copies of the receipt and the warranty for my dictionary.

If this problem is not suitably resolved in ten working days, I will consider taking further action to resolve the complaint either through the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs or through the courts.

I trust that I can count on your cooperation to finally resolve this problem. Please contact me at the above address or on my mobile 0411-827-866

Yours faithfully
